Faithful Forecast

A Forecast for Southern Schuylkill and Northern Lebanon County

Winter Returns

1/7/2019

Minor update: A warm front is producing more than previously thought. A brief period of sleet/snow will occur for maybe 30 minutes this afternoon. A slippery spot could develop too. Don't be too alarmed, it will end, pass through and then more light stuff develops overnight. Yes, winter is easing back in.

It has been mild the last 2 weeks, esp. the overnight temperatures. Our low temperatures average in the low to mid 20's this time of year, and we’ve been in the 30’s and even some 40's most nights lately. That is where the bulk of our above average run has occurred. Yes, the days have been mild also, but not nearly as much as the overnight periods.  But that looks to be coming to an end as winter begins to come back.

Today will be the coldest in about 2 weeks with highs in the low/mid 30’s with thickening clouds as a storm system approaches from the west. But due to the storm being north of us, some warm air will work its way in and cause snow/sleet and some freezing rain tonight. There will not be a lot but enough to remind us its January.

Warmer air will move in Tue for a brief time, but colder air surges back with the development of numerous showers Tue afternoon into the overnight. They may change to snow showers before ending Wed morning. It will turn very windy Wed night into Thursday as well as much colder.

A nice mostly sunny winter day on Fri and into Sat sets the stage for what could be our first shot at some widespread snow over the weekend. How much snow? Too early to tell. But some light snow does appear likely.  It will remain seasonal, and since it's January that means one thing: it'll feel like winter. .
