Bearing Fruit by Making Disciples

Prayer: We take prayer serious. So did Jesus.  He would pray all night. He taught us to pray. He asked us to pray in His name. So we pray. Our adults pray. Our youth pray. Our children pray.  Prayer is vital for spiritual life.

Service is vital to spiritual life. Our children, youth and adults learn through a variety of opportunities (regular and occasional) the joy of serving one another. Service is a mark of the Christian life that may be learned by helping lead during the worship service, during the week, or spending a Sat morning working at a home bound member's house and yard cleaning, mowing, trimming, and/or repairing. Help with cleaning, gardening, painting, or even discarding old items no longer needed as one straightens out a mess storage area. There are many ways to serve.

Fellowship is also enjoyed while having fun together at events such as Winter Jam, Sky Zone, Hiking/Biking in Swatara State Park, Box Car rocks, boating on Sweet Arrow Lake, and more.  Special meals after a Sunday service or a picnic outdoors after an outdoor service is another time for being together. Of course before any service, and after as well. People are encouraged to be together as the Body of Christ.

Discipleship Study: This includes the above three: prayer, service (help one another) and fellowship. It also includes studying God's word and learning what He has to say to us (teach, train, correct, rebuke) so we are fully equipped for doing the good work we are created in Christ to do. Bible Quizzing

Bible Quizzing is about the blossom and the fruit.  Every spring we look forward to seeing the blossoms open on various flowering trees. Their beauty brightens a world that is still caught in the final throes of the drabness of winter. The brilliant pinks, whites and purples bolster our hope for better days ahead. The blossom is beautiful. We love it. Admire it. The only thing that beats it is the fruit that comes from it. (Please scroll down for the Bible Quizzing FAQs).

Bible Quizzing promotes kids/youth to blossom in their faith understanding, and then helps them in making wise and godly life decisions (the fruit!). We quiz because intentional study of the Bible helps secure God's Word in the heart and mind for quick and ready reference in times of decision and need.

Please understand, Bible quizzing is not magic. It takes time, commitment, and endurance. And just like the blossoms of springtime lead to a harvest of fruit in the late summer and fall, you too will reap a harvest in your child's life.

Bible quizzing will:
  • Give you a fuller understanding of God and yourself.
  • Give you understanding of God's Word and application to daily life.
  • Give you greater confidence to speak in front of others.
  • Give you new friends who also love the Lord
  • Give you what you need to become a more committed follower or disciple of Jesus Christ
  • Give you meaning and purpose for your life.

Thursday Eve Bible -- Answers Night

Are you in search of answers to many of life's questions?  Are you wrestling with living for God, yet confused with the messages from various media platforms?  We have some good news ... your search is over!

Every Thursday Evening (Sept - April) at 6:30 pm we gather together to laugh, pray, encourage, study, and grow as we seek out answers for the tough questions of life. This evening has become known as Answers Night.
  1. Little Ones Ministry ... A special time for those from toddler to early elementary. A time of discovery, helping, and learning about who God is, what He is like, and how we need Him.
  2. Little League ... A time for elementary aged kids to learning about the Bible, God, and oneself. Knowing why you trust the Word of God, and that science and the Bible are very compatible.
  3. Youth  ... Teenage years are a challenge for many reasons, and as believer's teens face the challenge of taking ownership of their faith. This study time is a time for helping them to stand because they believe in Jesus and how to live for Him.
  4. Young Adults ... You are not in high school, yet you don't feel like a "full" adult yet. So what are you?  Study and learn from God about who you are with peers maturing as you are.
  5. Growing Disciples ... a time for adults of all ages to study the same scripture the children/youth are studying. This can lead to great family conversations and questions as everyone in the family is growing through the same word at the same time.

Disciple Making Groups

These groups range from 2 - 4 individuals. Usually men meet with men, and women meet with women. The goal for these groups is for more intentional and focused development of the individuals to be the person God created them to be as a disciple of Jesus Christ, which includes making more disciples for Jesus as He commands us in Matthew 28:18-20.  These groups meet as schedules allow, like once a month, once a week, every other week or some other agreed upon variation. If you are desiring to grow and understand God, His Word, His plan for salvation, Jesus the Son of God, then please do not hesitate to contact us.

Standing Firm

"Defend Your Faith" Luncheons: Series of fellowship meals held from September to May that focus on Apologetics. This is designed to help equip the Body of believers to share their faith, answer questions, and respond to others' doubt or chastisement. The elders (Pastor as head elder) plan, prepare and teach this series together.

"Hebrews 6:17" Luncheons: New series of luncheons that will be held from September to January. This series will focus on the hope that we have in Christ, and how other faith systems, although having some similarities which can lead to some confusion, there is a vast difference in the hope they offer. Our hope is secure and assured. We have confident expectation of our future because of Jesus Christ.

Outdoor Services and Picnics: Two to three annually from Memorial Day to Labor Day. These services are held under our picnic pavilion and on the grounds surrounding it. It is a time for worship, fellowship, food, and some fun. Relax and be who God created you to be.

Bible Quizzing FAQs

Q: When does the new season begin?
A: The season begins in September. The Little league season will continue into April or early May culminating with a dinner and award Camp YoliJwa scholarship award ceremony. The Jr/Sr High season will continue until the last week of July ending with a trip to the Nationals Bible Quizzing Tournament held at camp SonRise Mountain on the border of PA and MD (literally! as the Camp is in BOTH states).

Q: What are the age limits/requirements?
A: Little League: 3rd grade - 5th grade. Junior High: 6th grade - 9th grade. Senior High: 10th grade - 12th grade. Note: Jr. High Quizzers can quiz at the Sr High level if needed to complete a team of 3 quizzers.

Q: Is travel involved?
A: Yes. Travel times to monthly Bible Quizzes are typically about 1.0 - 1.5 hours to the host churches (we are unable to host due to our smaller facilities). The host churches we travel to are all part of the Churches of God, General Conference (CGGC).

Q: How long does a quiz event last?
A: 2-3 hours plus travel time (See above). A Bible Quiz Event consists of multiple individual 20 question quizzes that lasts usually less than 20 minutes. Each individual quiz consists of 9 quizzers, from 3 different teams with 3 quizzers each. There are multiple teams from multiple churches participating on all three levels (Little League, Jr High, Sr High), with each team quizzing 3 times during an event.

Q: How many quizzes are there in a season?
A: There are 5 Bible Quiz events during the year, one each in November, January, February, March, and April / May. Quizzing Nationals then takes place in July for Jr/Sr High quizzers.

Q: When are quizzes held?
A: On a Sunday afternoon typically from 2 - 5 pm. The season ending quiz would be later as it includes recognition, camp scholarships, and a meal.

Q: Is there any cost involved?
A: A small fee is required to register, but the church covers most or all of the cost as an investment into developing young disciples.

Q: Besides learning the Bible, is there any other reward?
A: Having the Word of God written on your heart and in your mind is foremost and will benefit one for the rest of his/her life, but also friendships with other youth that may last a lifetime. Every quizzer receives a witness wear T-Shirt at the end of the season. The top Bible Quizzers are recognized at the end the season. And depending on how many verses you memorize during the year you can earn partial scholarships to attend a week at Camp Yolijwa during the summer.

Q: What is the role of the parent?
A: Your role as a parent is priceless. Encouraging your child to read, or even reading with your child, the chapter and verse portion on a regular schedule is most important. Reading for 10 - 15 minutes, 4 times a week is about all it really takes. You are also invited to watch a Bible Quiz. It is great way to support your child and this ministry.

Q: Can my child/youth join to study, and not quiz?
A: Yes. We have several youth who currently do this. The Bible studies are invaluable and combined with parents fulfilling their role (see previous question) will lead to life transformation. The studies are held Thursday evenings from 6:30 - 8 pm at our Church Fellowship Hall.

MISSIONS

Love your neighbor as yourself ... you are the light of the world ... ambassadors of Christ ...  Go and make disciples of all nations ... God so loved the world

The above descriptors and many more all point to the mission of God: To reconcile the world to Himself (Colossians 1:20).  If I or my child or grandchild won a great award or got a great deal on a new outfit or even purchased a new car, we all know that each one of us would share the news with those close to us and/or the many friends on social media. In the same way we are to commit ourselves to sharing the greatest news ever made known to man: "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16 NLT)

Our Basic Commitment is to obediently make the most of our opportunities as we follow God the Son (Christ), living our lives for the glory of God the Father, as we are enabled by God the Holy Spirit. We are His stewards, and all we have belongs to Him and will be used for Kingdom of Heaven purposes.

Personal and Prayer Support: We commit to praying for our missionaries, and to celebrating God's work of salvation through Jesus Christ of any soul locally or internationally. When it is possible, we will bring our missionaries in to give personal testimony of God's work in the mission field.

Financial Support: The following is a list of missions/missionaries whom we currently support through the offerings of the church. We also encourage individuals to give in support individually and in support of others that may not be listed below.
  • Child of Promise: For only $20 a month a young child in Bangladesh can be provided with meals, shelter, clothing, and a Christ centered education through CGGC Global Reach. That's only $240 a year to change the life of a child for eternity.
  • Stephen and Jane King: This BCM International missionary couple trains and equips children and youth leaders all over the world. Some locales are safe and secure, while others are dangerous. They have been to Asia, Africa and many other areas as well.
  • Keith and Sara Evans: Keith and Sarah are Pennsylvania college campus missionaries with DiscipleMakers serving at Lebanon Valley College in Annville, PA.
  • Align Life Ministries: (Formerly Susquehanna Valley Pregnancy Services): A Christ centered crises pregnancy center serving the Susquehanna Valley and Southeastern Pennsylvania.
