Faithful Forecast

A Forecast for Southern Schuylkill and Northern Lebanon County

Weather thru August 25 - Updated

8/17/2013

Minor update for Thursday and Friday. The cool front will be coming through earlier, so it means the chance for rain Wednesday night and Thu,  but no longer on Fri. This will make for Fri - Sun very pleasant with temps in the upper 70s to near 80. Dry and beautiful. Enjoy!
Review of the Past Week:

A beautiful stretch of weather!  I mean open windows, great for sleeping, easy of the electric usage, and perfect for campfires. It feels like September, and not the middle of August. The forecast was pretty good. A little cool for Sunday, had more sun on Tue afternoon, so was a little cool there too, and Sat morning was a little too warm. But otherwise very good, so the grade will be an A-; it was an excellent week.

Overview:

The week coming up will be pretty straight forward. It will be mainly dry as a ridge builds over us at the surface and aloft. This allows for the air mass to warm to more typical August levels, as we try to run toward 90 by mid week. Prior to this, warm, moist air coming our of the Gulf of Mexico will try and run towards us. The circulation around the Atlantic ridge will push in northeastward, but the surface high will try to block it. It’s a tight line for how much rain. In VA and parts of MD will get over an inch, but north-eastern PA will get nothing. So we are right on the edge. See map above. This ridge will begin to break down in our area late in the week, and shift to the west by the weekend, as cooler air returns, but the warmer weather will not be too far to our west.

Specifics:

Sunday: A mostly cloudy day, with some sun peeking through. It will be cool with an easterly breeze. A few showers are possible, but they will be light if they occur at all. Daytime highs near 74, nighttime lows near 62.

Monday: Clouds and sunshine. It will be more humid, with the chance of shower or thunderstorm roaming around in the afternoon and evening.  Daytime highs near 81, nighttime lows near 65.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, and humid. Daytime highs near 84, nighttime lows near 65.

Wednesday: Sunny and very warm. It will feel like August with typical humidity. Daytime highs near 87, nighttime lows near 68.

Thursday: Very similar to Wednesday, sunny and very warm.  Daytime highs near 87, nighttime lows near 68.

Friday: A sunny day to start, still warm, but a weak cool front will try to come through during the afternoon/evening sparking some showers and thunderstorms. Daytime highs near 84, nighttime lows near 60.

Saturday: Cooler again, with clouds and sunshine.  Daytime highs near 78, nighttime lows near 54.

Sunday:   Partly sunny, with chance for showers. Daytime highs near 78, nighttime lows near 58.

Hint thru Labor Day:

The last weekend of summer! Or so we say. It is looking like an over-all warm week, with higher humidity, especially the second half of the week, and toss in some added excitement as the tropics will be more active. A tropical storm or hurricane may be approaching the SE coast of the US toward the weekend. We will have to see. The map to the left is for Tue the 27th, but its too soon for that storm to be where it has it. This is what I see could happen over labor day weekend.

It should be a mainly dry week, but maybe some showers early, as a ridge builds over the SE US and pumps warm, more humid air our way. It will certainly be different than the first half of August was for us.
