A Forecast for Southern Schuylkill and Northern Lebanon County

I hope you got a chance to enjoy yesterday's weather ... it was gorgeous. A great day for a hike, which is what we did after the morning worship service. A picture perfect and warm day. But ... a warm day only becasue of what we have been used to. It really was a very average day for April 6!  Our average temp for the afternoon high is in the upper 50s and by this weekend its 60!  So we should expect to be mild. Ahh, well it was still nice, even if not all that unusual.

Now looking ahear we are in store for a changeable week. We will have some rain today, windy Tuesday, cool and sunny Wed, sunny Thu with warming temps, showers Fri, then a warm weekend esp. Palm Sunday unless low clouds move in off the ocean.

All in all the weather is definitely Spring-like and our “snow” is history. There is still lots of ice on the Great Lakes, and snow in Canada so that will keep the chilly air masses that much cooler. As we go deeper into the month the chilly air will invade the Central US more than the East. This is good so we stay moist but not so cool. My expectations for this month and into early May:

Temps: average (long term average is from the mid 50’s at beginning to upper 60’s by end of month)

Precipitation: Above average to well above average. It just depends on the heavy rain events themselves (We have about 1” for month with a solid 3/4” on its way for this storm today which puts us at 50% of our average of 3.3”)

Snow: done until November

Daily Highlights:

Today: Cloudy, chilly with rain arriving this morning. Temps struggling to reach the mid 40’s by late this evening. Temps rising tonight to near 50, before falling back a little by morning. Rain could be heavy at times, esp. areas to our east. Rain ending early tonight with a few showers left over toward morning. High: 46. Low: 45.

Tuesday: blustery with sun mixing with clouds. It would be a lot like this past Sat. So if the clouds hang tough, drop the temps about 6 degrees .High: 55. Low: 37.

Wednesday: Calmer with mostly sunny skies. Cool. High: 54. Low: 30.

Thursday: Warming occurs as winds turn to the SW. Lots of sunshine, but it could be filter with wispy high clouds. High: 60. Low: 45.

Friday: Frontal boundary will be nearby with a thin line of clouds and showers. If this stays to our north until late, temps will rise to near 70, but if it comes in early, and we get some rain, temps will stay in the mid 50’s. Tough call. I expect sunshine to start, with increasing clouds. Showers are possibly in the afternoon. High: 59. Low: 48.

Saturday and Sunday (Palm Sunday): a beautiful weekend weather alert will be in effect. Sun and clouds on Sat with temps rising into the low 60s. And on Sunday (as long as there are no clouds off the ocean; while possible, it does not seem the most favorable set up for it right now), temps with sunshine will rise into the low 70’s!

Pretty good soaking rain will occur next Monday and more chilly air will visit us. It appear that the week leading up to Easter will not be all that warm. It would not surprise me to see next week average out cooler than this current week. No leaves on the trees just yet. A reluctant Spring is what we have.
