A Forecast for Southern Schuylkill and Northern Lebanon County

Winter Weekend

A very wintry weekend is in store for us. The snowiest stretch of weather we've had by far. And that does not include the 1 or 2 chances for snow next weekend either. Yes, the first 10 days of March will be quite white and cold. After that, things begin to moderate as we approach springtime. Until then, it will be winter.

  1. Today's snow ends if it has not already. 1-2" is what we get. Lots of clouds for the rest of the day.
  2. Second storm, which is looking healthy at this hour, pushes snow into our area around 10 pm and ends by 8 am. Another nighttime snow. 2-4" is expected. (However, if some rain mixes in 1-2" snow. If banding shows up, which it could, then 3-6" snow. I think 2-4" is most likely, but there are some issues that could change things, and that cannot be known until it is happening).
  3. The big system on Sunday. It should start to snow after 2 pm Sunday, and then the continue, heavy at times until ~3 am. 9-12" is expected. (However, some rain/sleet could mix in. If this happens expect 6-9" snow. This will start and end as snow. The question is at the height of the snow, could enough warm air get involved to change our snow to rain/sleet for a time? It is possible, but I don't expect it to at this time.)

It is possible to get more than a foot of snow by Monday morning with the bouts of snow that are coming. This will put us above average for seasonal snowfall total. Took longer than expected, but finally a bigger snowstorm that is all snow, not slop.

There is potential for accumulating snow next weekend also. Could be plow-able also. Winter is not yet done.

Enjoy.

Note: Yes, my call for the Sunday storm is early, but to be honest, it is rather straightforward. Now something might change, but right now I don't see it. We are now within 60 hours of the storm beginning to impact us and I just don't see that large of a change coming. If it does, I will update. But right now I feel comfortable with the forecast.
