Wash, Rinse, Repeat

Today's Discussion

Wash, rinse, repeat sums up our weather pattern so far this early winter. We get cold, get a chance for some snow then snow/ice and we warm up. We just warmed up, now we're getting cold. A little snow, then some ice and rain as we warm up ... again next week ... ho hum back to this week.

As I said the other day, I did not feel the models were handling Thursday’s system well … and it turns out that they were not. Now don’t get me wrong, this is NOT a major system. But it is one of those “beware” of the little guy. This will bring some light snow Thu night and likely be done by Friday sunrise or shortly thereafter. Not much moisture involved, but with cold conditions with temperatures in the 20s it will be a fluffy snow. So 1/10th of an inch of moisture may give us 1.5” snow. That is why I am going with 2” total. Would not be surprised to hear of a localized 3” spot either. Again, this will be fluff. Easy to move.

The rest of Friday will be cold and breezy at times.

The next system which I highlighted as one that could be significant, is still around. But it does appear that it will be too far east to impact us beyond some high clouds.  It will produce a nice snowfall for parts of the Carolina’s, Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware. It won’t take much of a shift to bring light snow into our area, but I doubt it.

Cold Saturday. Cold Sunday and esp. Sunday night with low temperatures Mon morning in the single digits. Lots of sunshine Sunday and Monday before we enter the cycle of snow/ice/rain again Tue and Wed of next week. Fun, fun, fun.

If you are looking for some good snow?  Head west, near the Great Lakes or to northern New England. Maybe even Virginia Beach this weekend! Other than that, not a lot happening … yet.
