A Forecast for Southern Schuylkill and Northern Lebanon County

Refreshing, Refreshing, Refreshing - Updated Tue Am

Some updates are warranted for Wed.

Today: Forecast looks good as lots of sun then a shower or two or a thunderstorm later this afternoon.

Wednesday: A compact short wave with a pocket of very chilly air will move into our area in the morning, This will likely lead to showers and some thundershowers. The chance for rain will end by midday; expect 1/4 to 1/2 inch rain.  And with lots of clouds around until evening, it will be chilly, esp. compared to the last two weeks.  Temps will only be rise to the mid 60s for highs tomorrow. CHILLY!

The rest is the same. Complete update tomorrow morning.
This is a map pinpointing the reports of severe weather across the nation for yesterday (Sunday). The blue triangles indicate high wind reports (trees and power lines down, wind damage to buildings etc.) As you can see, the storms for yesterday were not hyped. Wind and rain were the big threats and they came to pass. Thankfully no injuries or worse.

One word sums up the weather today, Tuesday, Wed, Thursday and Friday: Refreshing. Actually under normal circumstances today would be a little humid with dew-point temperatures around 60, but after being at 70+ yesterday, it feels really good this morning.

The forecast worked out well yesterday: the storms dumped torrential rain and winds that did produce damage in a number of areas, but no hail or tornadoes, largely due to the mostly cloudy skies. I even recorded 1.20" rain in my rain gauge. Some got more, some got less. The forecast was pretty good. Now for the rest of the week.

Big trough is taking over and will peak on Wed, then relax but still protect us from the heat ridge developing over the central US. A secondary cold front will move through Tue giving us a chance for shower or thunderstorm with gusty winds. As this is happening Tropical Storm Colin will be dumping gusty winds and lots of rain over Fla, GA, SC and NC. He will not impact us in the slightest.

During the week the plains, including Texas, which has had too much flooding will be drying out and heating up. I am sure they will not mind. That warmth will try and push into our area, but the cooler air will fight back. This leads to a battle, and we appear to be in the midst of it by Sat – Mon. Could be a couple rounds or so of rain/thunderstorms, some of which could be heavy with strong winds.

Points for Next 7 Days:
  1. Lowering Humidity and Temperatures: Mon – Thu. Partly to mostly sunny skies, slight chance for a shower Tue and Wed.
  2. Tropical Troubles: A new tropical low will develop in the Gulf of Mexico. Not sure if it will have time to develop into a named storm or not, but it will soak upper portions of Florida, and the SE coastline including the areas soaked by Tropical Storm Bonnie. This will not impact us at all.
  3. High Heat: In the central plains temperatures will soar to near 100 by mid and late week. This will try to come east, but the cooler air will fight it leading to clusters of storms that will move SE from the upper Midwest and Great Lakes. These could also be severe and produce very heavy rain.
