Ridging will continue to dominate the Central States, and the east central Atlantic Ocean. In between will be a weakness, which is where our cooler shots of air can move south. But what about precipitation?
The best chances for rain is Wed, Thu, Fri and Sun. The best days will be Thu and Sun. Now the timing may change, but that is how it looks right now. A cold front will move through Friday, but it will be weakening considerably, and it will stall just to our SE of even over our area. This should lead to some disturbance moving along it over the weekend. This could provide a good opportunity for rain late Saturday night into Sunday.
The potential is there as the above map shows. Any thunderstorm will be capable of heavy rainfall. I imagine that the areas that have been getting the most rain lately will likely to continue to receive the most. When it is drier, you need to under-forecast the rain. So yes, some backyards may get 2" in the next 7 days. But others may get just .5" or less. But any rain is good.
