Discussion:

In case anyone was worried about a drought this summer … please stop worrying!  We are not having one, and it does not look like one will be occurring either. The wet weather pattern looks to continue for the next week (Note: I’ve now recorded over 10” of rain at my house over the last 4 weeks. That is wet.)

But before that a very pleasant weekend is shaping up: Sat and Sun look nice with mostly sunny skies and temperatures around the lower 80’s for highs with lower humidity.

An upper level trough of low pressure will slowly sag SE into our area for Mon and Tue. This will bring more moist and humid air back into our region. Some showers and thunderstorms with heavy rain will be likely again Mon and Tue.

By Wed this trough lifts out/falls apart for the most part. A shower is still possible, but it should remain dry for 95% of the area.  The heat will try to return Wed, Thu and into Fri. It will turn very warm and humid for these days, just more typical summer-like weather for mid-July.

Showers and thunderstorms will be likely for Friday as a low pressure area pushes a cold front through. This will lead to yet another lower humidity, cooler weekend. Recall my words from earlier in the week: “This pattern of heat trying to make inroads looks to continue next week also, with a surge or warmth pushing in for Tue – Thu but then by the weekend I fully expect another push of cooler air for the 22nd and 23rd. This is NOT based on any models, just pattern recognition.”

Now the heat will not try to build in until Wed, but still no mega heat ridge for the east. At least yet. And with the amount of moisture in the ground for much of the nation east of the Mississippi River, it will take some time to dry up the surface of the ground. Wet ground helps promote cooler weather … just as dry ground promotes hotter in the summer. Conclusion: No heat wave in sight.

Dailies:

Saturday: Lowering humidity. Becoming mostly sunny. Breezy at times.
Sunday: Mostly sunny. Lower humidity. Breeze at times.
Monday: Partly sunny. Showers and thunderstorms are likely. Humid.
Tuesday: Sun and clouds. Showers and thunderstorms are likely.  Humid.
Wednesday: Partly to mostly sunny. Chance for a shower. Warm and humid.
Thursday: Mostly sunny. Very warm and humid.
Friday: Sun and clouds. Showers and thunderstorms likely. Warm and humid.
