Flooding West - Drought East?

Really not much change in the overall weather picture. You’ve heard about the flooding in Oklahoma and Texas, (and the idiotic notion that it’s due to climate change!) and now we have a building drought to our east. Allentown has had .09” rain this month; Reading .44”; Philly, NYC, Boston, Worcester, MA all less than .50” for the month. That is dry folks! Very dry. Little change is seen for the next month.

So for the summer, as the wetness continues to our west, and the flow of air is generally west to east, that wetness should expand east. This ought to mean that our driest portion of summer will be the first part, with it becoming increasingly moist later in the summer.  Now, locally this may not be the case. Take last week for example: We got from 2-5” of rain locally. But many other areas got next to nothing. This could easily be the case over the next 2 months, but instead of us getting the heavy rain, we might be the dry ones. So I am really speaking in terms of regionally what the general idea should be as I see it.

Summer Forecast: Overall Dry and warmer than average.

Now to this week:

1.      Best chance for rain is today. Showers and storms are likely this afternoon. Up to .50” rain with locally more.

2.      Less humid Thu, warm and mainly dry.

3.      More humid Fri and Sat.

4.      Storms and some heavy rain likely late Sat – Sat night.

5.      Cooler Sun but dry.

6.      Wet period possible Mon-Wed next week?

Today: 82. Humid. Showers and storms likely. Locally heavy rain.
Thursday: 85. Mostly sunny. Less humid. Slight chance afternoon shower.
Friday: 86. More humid. Mostly sunny.
Saturday: 85. Showers and storms likely in the afternoon and evening. Some heavy rain likely.
Sunday: 79. Clouds and some sun. Cooler and less humid.
Mon – Wed: 66-72. Mostly cloudy. Some rain and/or showers possible. Locally heavy rain possible as well.
