Faithful Forecast

A Forecast for Southern Schuylkill and Northern Lebanon County

Dangerous Weather for Thursday!

6/11/2013

Overview: Every once in a while you get a game changer. In sports a certain play can suddenly change the flow of a game, well we get that on Thursday. A very intense area of low pressure will move through our area strengthening as it does. This system will be stronger than Tropical Storm Andrea when it moves through our area. The issues to be alert for:

  1. Flash flooding: On Monday evening flash flooding occurred in Northumberland county around Knoebels and in Schuylkill county near Mahanoy City.  More heavy rain producing storms will occur Thursday. There will be more of them and be more widespread. We may not get them, but be aware of a threat for flash flooding Thursday.
  2. Severe Storms: It is likely that some storms will have some strong damaging winds will them, esp as you get closer to the PA - MD border. If we get some sunshine and temps jump into the lower 80s watch out for supercells thunderstorms to develop which could produce tornadoes. This could produce a fairly large area of severe weather for us. The set up is serious enough to warrant my mention two days ahead. You will be hearing more about this on most weather forecasts starting today, but especially Wed.

This system destroys the end of the week forecast. I said this was a game changer and it really is ... so this is the update:

Thur: Humid with heavy to severe thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, maybe a few peeks of sunshine. Becoming breezy late. Expect over 1" of rain with locally 3"+. Keep an eye to the sky this day. Highs will be in the low to middle 70s.

Fri: Much nicer and cooler. Clearing early, with a nice breeze. A few afternoon clouds. Cool with highs in the low 70s with nighttime temps into the upper 40s possible.

Sat-Sun: beautiful weekend. Increasing clouds for Sunday but very nice. Temps in the 70s to near 80 by Father's Day. The heat stays away for now. Lots of sunshine.

Although forceasting the weather is an imperfect science, it is a pleasure to follow what the Creator has made.
